Jewish War Vets honor NYC Police Commissioner

From Courier-Life Publications –

The Big Apple’s top cop joined the executive of a utility giant on the awards podium when the Jewish War Veterans-Kings County Council met in Mill Basin.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and KeySpan Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Robert B. Catell were delivered plaques of commendation during the group’s annual meeting at El Caribe Country Club, 5945 Strickland Avenue.

Kelly, a combat veteran and part of the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, was hailed for his crime-fighting efforts, while Catell, who rose through the managerial ranks at the former Brooklyn Union to become its chief executive in 1991, was hailed for his civic work.

Catell, co-author of “The CEO and the Monk: One Company’s Journey to Profit and Purpose” and vice chairman of the National Petroleum Council’s Natural Gas Committee, was “so impressed” with the host veteran organization that he has since met with Past County Commander Jerome Cohen and a consortium of local business leaders to raise funds for the restoration of the Brooklyn War Memorial at Cadman Plaza, said JWV spokesperson Jane Zweifler.

The granite and limestone monument is dedicated to the 300,000 American men and women who served in World War II.

The group also honored former Borough President Howard Golden, whose award was accepted by his wife, Aileen Golden.
