Hollywood Minute

My wife might be the one who reads all the “entertainment news” in our family, but I did come across this tidbit the other day:

Aaron Spelling, of Love Boat, Dynasty, Fantasy Island, and Melrose Place fame, passed away last week at the age of 83. While many of you might have known he was Jewish (We do control Hollywood, right?), I bet not many knew he was a Jewish War Veteran.

From Moviehole:

During World War II, he served in the Air Force [then the Army Air Corps], serving as a war correspondent for Stars and Stripes. Wounded by a sniper’s bullet, he was decorated with a Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart with oak-leaf cluster.

After his discharge, Spelling spent a few years directing plays in the Dallas area and New York before moving to Hollywood in 1953.

So, while the news leaders (Extra, Access Hollywood, and Entertainment Tonight) hail Mr. Spelling for his accomplishments in television and movies, let’s take a moment to recognize his service in our great Armed Forces.
