My Dad, Rabbi Schranz

Editor’s Note: I received this article from a very special girl and couldn’t resist posting it. Rabbi Schranz is fortunate to have such a loving family at home.

Hello, My name is Raphaela Schranz. I am 10 yrs old. Right now I want to tell you how special my dad really is.

It all started when my mom and dad were talking about something, and then all of a sudden my mom, Chana said 6 months. Then it hit me, I knew my dad was going somewhere far away for that long. Then he left to Camp Victory. I was very sad.

My dad, Rabbi Mitchell Schranz is one of the only rabbis in the US Military. He’s so special there’s a whole page on the internet about him. Cool, huh.

I miss the jokes he used to tell me and my brother Evan. They were so funny!!!

He always believes in me.

    You are a lucky girl to have such a wonderful and special Dad. I am so grateful for him! Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us, especially with our military men and women. We *need* him!

    I am proud of you for being proud of your dad!! Where is he stationed? I wish he could say hello to my son who is a Marine stationed in Hawaii!

    Hello Raphaela,

    I remember you as a baby when your family lived in Okinawa. Your father is a wonderful, spiritual teacher and chaplain. He was a great influence on me.

    Hello Raphaela,

    I served with your dad in Baghdad, Iraq and was honored not only to have meet and known him, but also b/c I was finally able to have my Bat Mitzvah ceremony, right there in Baghdad in October of 2005.

    I am trying to reach your dad now. He had said that if I ever married a Jewish man that he would love to perform the ceremony. Well, I am now planning my wedding for March 1, 2011 and would be greatly honored if he could come to my hometown of Columbus Ohio to officiate my wedding.
