god bless you and all are jewish brothers in the military. Im prode to serve, and be a jew in the US Air Force.

  • General Schwartz is more than a ‘Jew In The News’. I am privileged to have known him since his first days in USAF Special Ops. He is one of the most extraordinary military leaders in this and the last century.

He is a people person in the mold of WWII’s Soldier’s General- Omar Bradley, a combat general and tactician and logistician extraordinaire.

What makes him unique is that he cares about his people, whether past, present, or future. He has met my parents once and thanked them for their career in the USAF, even though my dad was ‘only’ in supply. He listened to myself and other NCO’s in his commands during my career and also asked how our families were. My son has since joined the USAF and he remembers him from his early days. He can meet a former member 10 years later and remember their name and family members names.

He really cares and it reflects in his rise to General. Without his leadership, many unknown persons around the world in distress may have died in disasters. His leadership in USTRANSCOM reflects his devotion to his country.

He is the type of leader who can call upon any member retired or not, at 3am, and we would be there ready to fly.

  • On the subject of General Schwartz (and I will cease and go to bed)…

He should be recommended for the Nobel Peace Prize.

    Look up the criteria.

    He exceeds it.

    Anyone game?

I have known General Schwartz since 1968. He is the most focused individual I have ever known. The word quit does not exist in his vocabulary. He makes all his hometown friends and relatives so very proud.

We played football together. He was a competitor extremm. H e still is. What an excellent chice to lead the Air Force.

In his words “ Don’t go downtown without us” God Bless you Norty.

  • Mazol Tov–Being Jewish and attaining that position–I am very glad you did not retire.

Some years ago my partner, the late original seven-astranaut Gordon Cooper, along with ten others developed a new fuel for aviation. I witnessed Gordon filling his T-38, that the USAF assigned to him as his personal “bird”, with Methanol.  I met him in Indiana when he was racing cars-he landed at a small airfield that had no Av-Karo.There were two 55 gallons of Methanol left, and he used that to make a non-stop flight back to Houston.  I remember the G E people telling him that they could not believe how great a shape the engine was in-looked like new…I might add–aft-burners worked, but temptures were less than 50% of normal.

I will write you to give the USAF the formula.

I am retired and live in LA and Palm Desert. I see it working in Drowns as we tested a Williams turbine with it-my report was very good.  I might also add that our super-cub obtained altitudes of 21,000 feet-book says on av-gas only 12,000.

Again-all the very best in your new job.

  • Since I am jewish its great too hear about jews excelling in different areas who we can see as a role model. Thank yo so much

  • I met General Schwartz at Elmendorf AFB, and he is a Mensch to the nth degree.

    WOW!

I always knew my childhood friend and neighbor, “Norty” Schwartz would be a success, but no one could ever have predicted the extent of that success!

I went all through school with Norty Schwartz and he lived around the corner from me in our home town of Toms River, NJ. He played HS football and I knew he went to the USAF Academy, but after that, I really did not know.

Imagine my surprise when, last night on 60 Minutes, I saw him again after so many years! Only this time as General Norton Schwartz, Commander of the US Air Force!

I am certainly not surprised, and I am very proud of him!!

Norty, I hope to see you again at our USY reunion next summer!

    Congratulations!

    Your old friend,

    Robyn (Leet) Ciangetti

    Norton,

I am so proud of you and all of your accomplishments. My son is a Captain in the Air Force getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. Under your command, I’m sure he will be okay. I can’t wait to tell him that you and I grew up together, and about how your wonderful father was so close to my parents. You will be in my prayers.

congrats gen schwartz, mit der menshen; david b meyers, cmdr burke vfw post 5412 & usmc pilot

  • I served under Gen. Nortie Schwartz in 1985-86 at McChord AFB. I was his squadron chief of Stan/Eval. Despite his pleadings to stay in the USAF, I left for a job in the airlines. It was a good move for me, turned out well. But Gen. Schwartz was the finest commander I ever served under. I would have followed him into the jaws of hell. There are few I would say that of. He was the kind of leader that got into the left seat of the lead aircraft going into combat and said” follow me”….I we did. God Bless you General Schwartz….I am proud to say that I served with you. I am not Jewish….the thought of religious affiliation never crossed my mind and wouldn’t have mattered. I will always admire you and hold you dear in my memories.

I was one of those who had the privilage of serving under Gen. Norty at McChord while he was the 36th TAS commander. After 23 years of service I can honestly say that there is no finer, better or more compassionate leader in the US military. If he called on me this minute I would drop whatever I was doing just for the chance to work with him again. He should be the Chairman of the JCS. Not only all that, but as a C-130 pilot he has “great hands.” God bless you, my friend.

  • General Schwartz is absolutely the best Boss I ever had in my career. He is without a doubt the Airman’s Airman. He held people to the rules and regulations but didn’t ask them to do anything he wasn’t there doing himself. I was a fighter pilot in a Special Ops/MAC world and he never looked at that, he only looked at the job and that the job got done in the best way possible. Bravo Sir! Congrats, I’m proud of you.
