Military Cadets Visit Jewish Sites in Poland

JTA recently reported on 12 cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force Academies who travelled throughout Poland visiting Jewish sites. The trip was sponsored by the Auschwitz Jewish Center, a New-York based group that operates a museum and information center in Oswiecim, Poland.

I had never heard of this program before, but it is evidently a regular event put on by the Center. Their English website was having some problems when I wrote this, but here is a direct link to the Service Academy Program.

The goals of the program are “to help future military leaders understand the ongoing relevance of the Holocaust to their work, and to inspire and empower them to share their insights and understanding with others.” The three-week trip has an impressive itinerary, including visits with Polish and U.S. officials, and personal tours of Jewish places of interest and important Holocaust sites .
