More on the Naval Academy’s Jewish Chapel

As the dedication ceremony approaches, the media has put out a few more stories about the new Uriah P. Levy Jewish Center and Chapel. The latest is from the Staten Island Advance. It goes a little more in-depth about who Uriah Levy was and what his contributions to the Navy were.

You can expect a lot more coverage starting tomorrow, when the doors will be opened for a special tour for the media. The rest of us have to wait until Sunday, the 18th. In the meantime, here is some of information I found in my own searching that some of you might find interesting:

  • If you would like to know more about Uriah P. Levy, you can read a complete biography HERE.
  • You can download the official guide to the dedication ceremonies HERE (PDF).
  • All the info you could ever want about the new chapel can be found in the USNA PAO Press Kit.

For those of you that think this is just going to be a tiny building tucked away in the corner somewhere, you really need to check out some of these links. There are some preliminary photos and renderings that show what an amazing and significant structure the chapel is going to be. Look for more JIG coverage of the event from some of our correspondents who will be attending the ceremonies. I can’t wait to see it myself in person.
