Passing the Torch

As of today, Jews in Green is under new ownership. It’s hard to believe I started the site over a decade ago. The idea initially came from my own difficulties finding Jewish resources as a young enlisted Marine.

Over the last 11 years the site has seen much iteration – of both scope and style. Most recently I really trimmed the fat, focusing only on news and history of Jewish service. Part of that restructuring was an official partnership with the Jewish War Veterans (JWV) and the National Museum of American Jewish Military History (NMAJMH). Their resources and passion for honoring Jewish service brought new life into the site which makes me all the more excited to announce the next step.

As my Marine Corps retirement approaches this fall, I realize I need to pass the reigns to someone who can maintain a direct connection with Jews that are currently serving and devote the resources to keep the site running in perpetuity. I am excited that the JWV and NMAJMH will take on this role and I am confident they will continue to provide the quality service they have demonstrated over the past six months. If you aren’t familiar with their work, see for yourself and you absolutely must pay a visit to the Museum next time you are in Washington DC (especially with their recent renovations).

JIG means too much to me to completely disappear, so you’ll likely see an occasional post from me when I have something interesting to share.

I’d like to thank all of the dedicated readers over my tenure that made this whole effort worthwhile. One of my greatest rewards has been corresponding with and meeting some of you in person (often in the most unexpected places) over the years. It has been a pleasure and an honor to know each of you.

Finally, I’d like to thank those of you who have personally helped out with the site – either by writing articles, helping with care packages, or donating money to keep the servers running. Very special thanks go out to Brian Kresge, a true mensch and a great American, who ran the site for over two years while I took care of my family. I don’t believe JIG would be here today without his help. If you want to share in my message of thanks, go support his new endeavors to serve his community.

My baby has grown up. While I’m a little sad to let her go, I’m thrilled to see what the future holds. I know she’s in good hands with the JWV & NMAJMH and look forward to my new role as dedicated reader (and #1 fan).

Semper Fidelis and God bless.
